A businessman from Clitheroe is bringing a fresh twist on wraps with his new and sustainable street food business.
Rob Fenton launched Wrap Ninjas Street Food earlier this year after he experienced a taste of London’s Street food scene and “wanted to bring that back up north.”
The 41-year-old quit his office job in London to pursue his passion for creating his food business, and is bringing it to Darwen's Christmas market this festive season.
The business’s mission statement is aiming to “elevate the humble wrap to create flavorsome street food whilst doing business in a responsible way.”
Rob, who is from Clitheroe but now lives in Lancaster, launched his business in March this year after gaining experience as a chef in the French Alps for the summer season and working on a friend’s food truck.
He said: “What I really hope to do is make wraps as big as the other foods. Burgers have become cool, and pizzas have too, and I see all of these in street food. I think wraps are due a renaissance, so I want to be a part of that.
“The foods are focused on the flavours and to some extent bringing influences from different parts of the world.
"There’s lots of fresh homemade salads, a few homemade sauces and it’s healthy-ish with some treats in there as well.”
Rob has launched a special ‘Wrap Ninjas Christmas Wrap’ which Darwen locals will be able to try at the Christmas markets.
The wrap includes lemon and garlic roasted turkey, sage, onion & shallot stuffing, cranberry sauce pickled red cabbage, lettuce & spinach mix, mustard mayo, and homemade gravy.
As well as reinventing the standard wrap, the business owner is also striving to be as sustainable a business as possible.
He added: “I do have vegan and vegetarian options on my menu. I also source all my meat from a local butcher, and my eggs come from a local farm eggs supplier.
"I do as much recycling as much I can. I am early on in my journey and still learning but I’m going to continue to improve my small business.”
Rob emphasised the importance of supporting small businesses, especially during the cost-of-living crisis.
He added: “I support a lot of independent and small businesses myself. I know that we need our customers so getting behind these small ones is important. It creates a healthy local community.”
Rob will be doing Christmas markets around the North West, specifically Lancaster, Morecambe, Darwen and Windermere.
He normally trades in Lancaster, Morecambe and Preston, but has recently visited Kendal, Windermere, Stockport, Skelmerersdale and Blackburn.
If you want to try out Rob’s festive wrap you can visit the stall at Darwen Christmas Market from 10am to 8pm on Saturday, November 19.
