There’s a good chance that, unless you’ve got a good sized back-up generator and a large fuel store to match, there’s actually very little you can do.
When you think about it, so much of our business infrastructure depends on power that things would quickly grind to a halt without it.
Fortunately, we also have gas in our electricity mix, but over half of it is imported and that leaves us vulnerable to supply disruption - as we saw when National Grid issued a warning about gas availability during the ‘Beast from the East’ cold snap.
Shale gas on its own won’t remove the risks of energy shortages, but it could make them less likely. Too boost energy resilience, Lancashire businesses need to:
- invest in energy-saving measures
- install their own renewables capacity
- support Lancashire shale gas
