UCLan has gathered a number of big-name music insiders to create a masters degree qualification combining music, academia and business experience.
The qualification is being championed by guitarist Peter Hook, a member of Joy Division and New Order who also owned a stake in Manchester’s Hacienda nightclub.
Hacienda was known more for its cultural impact than its success as a business, with Hook eventually authoring the book How Not to Run a Club.
Other student mentors will include Tony Rigg, former operations director of the Ministry of Sound, and Aaron Mellor of nightclub company Tokyo Industries.
Course leader Les Gillon said: “We want to make it possible for students to support the music that they love - to make it financially sustainable.”
