‘Welding superstar’ Tyler Atkinson will make the journey from east Lancashire to Kazan in Russia to represent the UK at the ‘Skills Olympics’.
The 19-year-old apprentice at Darwen-based engineering company WEC Group will fly the flag for the country after being selected to take part in the construction metal work category of the global competition.
Tyler, from Blackburn, was first identified for Team UK selection following his success at the regional and national WorldSkills UK competitions in 2017 where he won a silver medal.
