Skelmersdale based Trelleborg has secured a contract to provide NjordGuard, an integrated cable protection system, for use in offshore wind farms in Taiwan.
Production of the 235 NjordGuards and bellmouths will take place in Trelleborg’s Lancashire manufacturing facility, with work starting immediately ready for installation in 2021.
The contract has been awarded by Danish firm Ørsted for the Greater Changhua 1 & 2a offshore wind farms, which comprise 111 turbines installed on jacket foundations. The two wind farms have a combined total capacity of 900 MW and are located 35 and 60 kilometers off the west coast of Changhua County, Taiwan.
Andy Smith, product group manager for renewables at Trelleborg’s applied technologies operation, said: “This is a significant achievement that marks our continued growth in renewables; a market we recognise is crucial for the world’s future energy needs.
"This major award continues Trelleborg’s excellent relationship with Ørsted following our six-year framework for providing NjordGuard Cable Protection System on their future projects.’’
