A generous travel agency has played its part in creating cherished memories for a Sough family, flying them out for a two-week holiday at the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida.
Sarah Monk, (36), from Sough, was diagnosed with breast cancer in March 2015; the cancer has now spread to her lungs, and she has been told by doctors that it is incurable. The news prompted Sarah’s cousin Kelly Marshall to set up a fund-raising page to help the family to raise enough money to take the holiday of a lifetime.
Althams Travel, who boast 31 branches in total, has very kindly donated over £2,500 to the cause and the holiday has now been booked through the branch in Skipton.Eddie Starkie, managing director at Althams Travel said: “I saw Sarah’s story in a local newspaper, and was really touched so I immediately contacted the newspaper to see how we could help.
“As a company, we very much appreciate the business we get in the area and this is an opportunity for us to give something back and more importantly help a deserving family enjoy an amazing, memory making experience.“Sarah and her family were overwhelmed when we offered to help, and it was lovely to be able to make a difference. I’m really proud of Vicky and the team at Skipton who have arranged the whole trip.”
Sarah will travel to Florida with her partner Lee Reed, nine-year-old daughter and her parents in May.Upon her return, she will be admitted back into hospital for further treatment, including a lung resection.
Barnoldswick Angels has very kindly been involved in the fundraising activities, donating £1000 towards the holiday; alongside holding a raffle, and an evening event to raise as much money as possible.“The story has touched a number of people in the local area, and it’s been great to get involved as a company,” said Vicky Minnikin, branch manager at Skipton. “It was really emotional when we presented Sarah with her tickets; I know they’re going to have a fantastic time and we can’t wait to hear all about it!”
