Training for Counsellors, specialists in experiential learning have launched a new CPD course, ‘Working with the Functionality of Neurodivergent Children and Young People’. This CPD training is part of an ongoing effort to address the increasing demand for neuro-affirming practices in counselling.
This six-session course aims to provide therapists with essential skills, knowledge, and ethics to support neurodivergent young people, their families, and other stakeholders in the therapeutic process.
The 30-hour experiential course, beginning on 31 January 2025, will be held at Haydock House in Blackburn, with small cohort classes. The training offers an intimate, supportive environment that fosters deep connection and learning. It will enable therapists and other helping professionals to view neurodivergent functionality through a different lens and empower clients to become better self-advocates.
Owner of Training for Counsellors, Samantha Crapnell is delighted to have Zara Winstanley as lead facilitator on the specialist CPD course, who has over a decade of experience working with children and young people with neurodivergent traits. Zara’s personalising of therapeutic techniques helps clients, their families, and other involved parties thrive. Participants will explore their own sensory experiences to better connect with neurodivergent clients, deepening their understanding and empathy.
Previous participants have shared they feel like they have a lot more knowledge to take forward into their practice. With one participant saying that having undiagnosed ADHD themselves, the CPD course highlighted how their lived experiences will be helpful in building relationships with neurodivergent clients.
With the experiential learning approach at its core, this course will provide participants with the tools they need to offer meaningful, inclusive support to neurodivergent clients. For more information on this course, visit the Training for Counsellors site or book your place here.
