The Foxton Centre, Preston’s charity for the homeless, has taken on a new member of staff to lead their marketing and PR.
Toma Suktye recently graduated from UCLan with a First Class degree in journalism. Toma is 22 and originally comes from Lithuania, where she worked on a voluntary basis with several charity organisations, before coming to the UK to study. As a charity, The Foxton Centre relies on donations from across the region, both from private individuals and companies. Toma will promote all The Foxton Centre’s activities to help raise awareness of the vital work they do to encourage more people and organisations to support them.
The Foxton Centre has a vibrant presence in the local community as well as on their website and across various social media channels such as Facebook and Twitter. Toma will be public face of the centre, giving presentations and publicising the campaigns they run, as well as being responsible for keeping all the website and social media platforms up to date and fresh.Toma said: “I knew a little about the work The Foxton Centre did before applying for the job but once I’d read their website and looked at their Facebook page, I really wanted to work there. The team and volunteers sounded so enthusiastic and the work they do so important. Now I’ve started working here I realise it’s even better than I imagined it would be! Everyone is so friendly and welcoming. I can’t wait to begin to make a positive impact to the work we do. I’d really urge everyone to have a look at our website and see if they can help in any way.” The Foxton Centre runs a variety of projects to support the homeless and vulnerable adults, as well as a range of services for and with young people. Through it’s recently awarded Lottery Grant fund it has embarked on a number of new projects including a food growing project and a ‘Market Stall’ project.
