Responsible for ensuring the health, safety and wellbeing of our staff, as well as our legal and regulatory compliance, the team in our Compliance department looks after several different elements which keep the business operational.
Based within our head office at Albion House, and covering all F&W locations, our Compliance department oversees the training and development needs of all staff, including drivers, warehouse staff, engineering staff, and those in administrative roles, whilst also overseeing the company’s quality assurance, health and safety, and regulatory compliance.
Managed by head of compliance, Martyn Richardson, day-to-day tasks for the Compliance team include monitoring health and safety by conducting assessments of risk and safe systems of work, monitoring compliance with driver hours and working time regulations, and ensuring all staff are in a position from which they can safely fulfil their roles.
"The Compliance department umbrellas a number of key areas, so we’re always kept busy," explains Martyn. "One of our main focuses is ensuring the business remains legally compliant, which involves researching industry news and implementing best practice guidance to ensure our operator licenses remain valid.
"We have operating centres in three traffic areas, covering our bases in Padiham, Coventry, and at our customer site in South Wales, and it’s a team effort involving a lot of collaboration with other senior managers to ensure all three sites can remain in operation.
"Another of our key responsibilities is to carry out investigations and complete root cause analysis of any incidents which might have occurred in the workplace, or out on the roads, involving one of our drivers. That being said, our focus is firmly with accident prevention, and we also investigate near-miss incidents, which provide an opportunity for us to learn and introduce corrective measures which can then help to mitigate the risk of accident occurring.
"The Compliance team will also oversee the processes involved with the frequent audits carried out for our quality standards - BRC, ISO9001, and Organic - to ensure standards remain consistently high, and we retain the industry accreditations we have worked hard to acquire."
