Lancashire’s central location to the rest of Great Britain has seen it become a major player as a logistic hub in the North West.
Its connectivity with the proximity of a number of motorways along with the publication of Transport for the North’s Strategic Transport Plan at the start of the year, to deliver a greatly improved infrastructure between the towns and cities should see Lancashire placed firmly on the map from a logistical point of view.It is hoped that TfN’s plans for improved connections between the economic centres, west to east as well as north to south, will help drive long-term growth and boost productivity across the whole of the north and reflects many of the priorities highlighted by businesses.
A number of large sites close to our motorway network have come to the market over the last few years and this has attracted a number of substantially large warehouse and distribution business including Exertis who currently occupy approximately 600,000 sq.ft and are looking to almost double the size of their operation in Burnley. Also speculatively Euro Garages is developing in Blackburn at Frontier Park which will see again approximately 400,000 sq ft of purpose built warehouse accommodation on this 90 acre site.
The demand is often for large warehouses from online distribution companies along with supermarket distribution centres. As long as we continue to provide sites such as these then Lancashire will be well and truly on the “map” as a logistical hub.
