Although there is no obligation to pay workers in such circumstances, if appropriate, technology may allow the employee to work from home or another location. Alternatively, you could suggest that the day is taken as annual leave, or the time is made up at a later date.

It’s important that staff remain productive throughout the year so take the opportunity to have some fun in the festive season; perhaps running competitions to encourage productivity and keeping staff happy with plenty of treats are ideas to help maintain momentum.
