At Fagan & Whalley, our people are at the heart of everything we do… But what is that, exactly? You may be familiar with the Fagan & Whalley name, having seen our trucks on the roads of the UK, but how much do you know about the people behind our operations?
In this series of articles, we speak with colleagues across departments to shed some light on what’s involved with their role and the part they play regarding the grander scheme of things here at Fagan & Whalley.
For this edition of team focus, we are speaking to Eddie Blake, a HGV master technician.
Led by Adam Burgess (head of fleet maintenance), Eddie works as a technician carrying out vehicle maintenance and repairs on our fleet and equipment.
How long have you been working at Fagan & Whalley?
7 years in March!
What attracted you to Fagan & Whalley?
I liked the fact that they valued their employees. We have good working hours, which means I get a lot of quality time to spend with my family.
What training/qualifications do you need to do your role?
I’ve got various BTEC and City and Guilds qualifications, but there is also a continuous investment in training.
What does your day-to-day role consist of?
I tend to get the big jobs. Welding, fabricating, and lots of vehicle maintenance. This role is crucial because it keeps the fleet on the road, increases road safety and also increases employee awareness of safety
What are the biggest challenges you face within your role?
I’d say the biggest challenge is keeping up with the ever-changing state of technology. It’s a challenge to develop new skill sets, but ultimately it keeps it interesting, too.
What do you love the most about your job and career at Fagan & Whalley?
I love the people I work with and the working environment
Are there any specific pieces of equipment or technology you need to carry out your role?
Yes! We use a huge variety of equipment depending on the job requirement. If we need it, we invest in it.
What personality traits do you think someone needs to succeed in your role?
A good work ethic and a strong sense of humour!
Are there any memorable stories or experiences from your time at work?
So many. But one of the biggest has to be the restoration of our Heritage Collection. This was particularly fulfilling because of what it means to Fagan & Whalley.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
Mountain Biking, Motocross with sons, Restoration of VW T4 Campervan
