September brought the much anticipated Taylor Patterson Charity Golf Day, held again at Shaw Hill Golf & Country Club.
This year, eight local professional businesses showcased their golfing prowess, looking to get their hands on the coveted charity shield, whilst also helping to raise funds for the nominated Taylor Patterson charity of the year, Rock FM’s Cash for Kids.Teams arrived in good spirits and tucked into their breakfast sandwiches for much needed fuel, as the tension began to build for the first tee-off.
This year we witnessed some fine golf from all teams, which left us questioning some of the handicaps submitted. No names to be mentioned!Topped up with on-course refreshments throughout the day, the teams were ready to take on the testing 12th hole par 3, as part of our nearest the pin competition.
With the first 5 teams all failing to hit the green we were left contemplating our decision to use the challenging 12th hole. However, up stepped Andy Vincent, of Birchall Blackburn Law, who made a solid connection from the tee, managing to find the edge of the green. This looked certain to be a winner until Andrew Wardle, a guest of Trevor Dawson Chartered Surveyors, struck a beauty to within 4 feet to take the prize! As the teams approached the finish line, the 18th brought the longest drive competition. Gareth Duckworth, of Barclays, left the field with absolutely no chance, hitting a belting drive straight down the middle of the fairway to around the 300 yard mark. We will credit it down to the snickers bar!
This wrapped up the golf and it was back to the clubhouse for a hearty Lancashire hotpot, whilst the scores were calculated and verified. This year’s competition was as close as ever with the top three teams, Barclays, Birchall Blackburn Law and Trevor Dawson Chartered Surveyors, all separated by 2 shots. However, it was Barclays who came out on top with a highly respectable stableford score of 82!
In addition to the teams already mentioned, our thanks go to Pierce Chartered Accountants, Forbes Solicitors, RSM Accountants, Begbies Traynor Insolvency and Cofunds Investment Platform for their continued support and generosity. Overall the event managed to raise in excess of £1,000 towards our fundraising efforts for Rock FM’s Cash for Kids. We would like to thank the golfers and companies that attended the day and kindly donated monies to this great cause.
