Hyndburn-based tech company, Sundown Solutions, have showcased their commitment to employing the borough’s future talent, following a presentation by CEO Heath Groves at The Hollins school.
Year 11s from the Accrington school attended the Amazing Accrington Future’s event in September and it was their enthusiasm and passion for a career in tech when visiting the Sundown Solutions stall, which prompted Groves to visit the secondary school in person last month.
Sundown Solutions have been based in Hyndburn since 2003 and provide IT consultancy and management solutions around the world.
One of the biggest problems faced by Groves and his team is attracting talent and good people to work for them, despite opportunities being available at the highest echelons of technology and recruitment needed at every chain of the business.
Groves also reiterated to students at The Hollins that you don’t have to be techy to work for the award-winning business, with options to move around within the technology space including their sales department.
Students from The Hollins were taken through a fascinating analogy by Groves, in which he used games consoles from the very beginning including the Anaconda-64 and the Sega Mega Drive, right through to the Xbox and the Playstation 4, to showcase how a journey and training with Sundown Solutions develops over time.
Groves told the enthusiastic pupils: “The gaming industry is bigger than both the movie and sports industry put together, making £180 billion a year.
“When we go to work we are gaming and on our phones, looking at stuff.
“The composite skills that you’ve got and that make you very good on these devices, are the exact skills we need for when you are working.
“When you come to work in the cyber industry, if you pick the right place, you don’t come to work, you come to fun.”
Sundown Solutions has recently partnered with Accrington-based training provider North Lancs Training Group (NLTG) to ensure it recruits local people with drive and determination.
It counts the NHS, National Audit Office, Capita and Takeda Pharmaceuticals as just some of its blue-chip clients.
