This is Shaun Ingram, Swansway Group's health and safety manager. Shaun has many years’ experience in health and safety in the motor industry. And we thought it would be useful to catch up with him at this point in time, during the global pandemic, when he like so many others in his field, has never been busier. So we asked him about his current priorities and challenges. Here’s what he said.
“My role is about looking after people and looking after the business. It’s a matter of following up on every detail and being patient and persistent until all the right measures are put in place. The work I do demands an ability to prioritise effectively, and to build good rapport with colleagues so that the messages I have to deliver are received and acted upon. Recently, I have had more questions than ever before, as everyone wants answers about how to keep ourselves and our customers safe.
"I am fortunate that there are so many great people working here, and I have been really impressed with how the teams have embraced all the differences in practices and procedures we have had to introduce. Working in a family business, it’s really easy to get decisions made, and I am really proud of the rapidity and effectiveness of the changes that we have made, and how well everyone has adapted to the situation.”
And we are fortunate that we have Shaun’s reassuring presence to help us navigate this unprecedented time. Thank you Shaun for everything you do. And further thanks to all the health and safety professionals out there – the work you do is tremendously important and we are all very grateful.
