Matthew Brown, founder and creative director of Morecambe based The Design Attic, recently made such an inspiring speech that he was invited to quote for work on the spot.
Having not spoken in public for two years, Matthew was nervous about being in the spotlight at the Shout Network meeting at Wyrebank Banqueting Suite in Garstang.Usually confident at meetings and presentations, Matthew accepted the invitation to talk about the importance of having a strong brand for your business with some intrepidation, even though it’s his specialised subject.
He said “I am a member of Shout and have always gone to the fortnightly get togethers to catch up with old colleagues and meet new contacts. I am comfortable with face to face networking but talking in front of a seated crowd was a daunting task”.However Matthew’s presentation went extremely well, so much so, that afterwards he was approached by the Manager of the venue who wanted to work with him. He quoted for a project, won the work and Wyrebank are now a full service client.
The Design Attic is going from strength to strength since moving into its bright orange office in the iconic Winter Gardens building.Since the move in August, it has added 10 clients to its already enviable portfolio and is now so busy it's upgraded the part time designer into a full time positon.
Matthew finished by saying: “Having another full timer in the office leaves me free to run the business, spend time with clients and get involved with the branding which is really where my heart lies. My dream was to stay in my home town and create employment for local people and I’m thrilled that it’s now happening. I’ve 3 members of staff as well as a bank of freelancers I can rely on at peak times." The Design Attic’s next plan is to launch a “Brand Clinic” where local businesses can drop into the office to meet Matthew, understand his services and talk through any brand issues they may be having.Enjoyed this?
