Spencer Clarke Group, a Preston based recruitment agency, has joined the effort to support Afghanistan refugees arriving in the UK with a collection of clothing and toiletries.
After the USA announced that they would withdraw troops from Afghanistan, bringing an end to its 20 year war, thousands of desperate people have been trying to flee the country to escape the Taliban.
Since 13th August, the UK has evacuated more than 8,000 people eligible for the Afghan Relocations and Assistance Policy.
After witnessing the harrowing scenes, particularly at Kabul airport, the Spencer Clarke Group team organised a collection of adults and childrens clothing and shoes.
Within the Spencer Clarke Group office, a tuck shop of sweets, crisps and chocolate is kindly provided by the directors, Mike Shorrock and Michael Spencer; employees can purchase items from the tuck shop with all the money raised going to charity.
From the tuck shop money raised over the last few months, hundreds of toiletries were purchased to go alongside the clothing donations.
The toiletries included shampoos, conditioners, shower gels, soaps, sponges, deodorants, baby wipes and hand sanitisers.
Mike Shorrock, managing director, said: “It’s really important that we get behind causes like this, as a business and individually. Every member of our team contributed to the collection which was great to see.”
