Bamber Bridge-based company Sm@rt Technology has been named the start-up tech company of the year at the National Technology Awards 2021.
Other winners on the night included Vodafone and Virgin Atlantic Airways.
Sm@rt Technology is the company behind the SmartCross system, a touch-free upgrade for pedestrian crossings which provides remote activation for people with disabilities using a SmartButton attached to their mobility scooters, electric wheelchairs or walking aids.
The systems are being installed in pedestrian crossings all over the UK, with more than 3,500 crossings already featuring the technology.
SmartCross has also developed a new system, SmartBus, which is a real-time information system for bus stops which gives information via an app of the next three buses due to arrive and audibly announces their arrival for people who are visually impaired.
Vivienne Meggers, national sales manager, said: "It was an honour to receive the award and national recognition for the systems that we have been developing. We try to remove the ‘Dis’ from Disability and give people Ability. Ability to lead as normal a life as possible and enhance their lives."
