Sarah Clancey, a member of PM+M's Business Services team, has taken home a silver medal at the national finals of the AAT Worldskills Competition in Accounting.
Sarah was team leader of the T2000 Hotpots, a group of three initially chosen last year to represent Training 2000. In order to make it through to the finals Sarah and her team had to see off competition from 60 other teams specialising in accountancy, from across the UK.More than 100,000 people were in attendance at the NEC in Birmingham where 700 finalists were demonstrating their skill in areas as diverse as engineering, bricklaying and floristry.
The teams were tasked with completing a set of accounts which involved showcasing their ability to work both as a team and individually.Sarah said: “We had to cover everything from processing the invoices to completing the extended trial balance. Throughout the day we also were handed several emails which involved writing replies on topics such as professional ethics and CPD."
“We were also required to create a business report regarding how to improve the solvency and cash flow of the business as well as an analysis of their older debtors and their credit limits and make suggestions for improvements.”Over the course of two days they were assessed on the accuracy of their answers, professionalism, communication and how they worked as a team and independently. After an intense couple of day's competition, the finalists were given the opportunity to let their hair down at the closing ceremony and after party held at the LG Arena on Saturday night where Sarah and the Training 2000 team were rewarded for their dedication and hard work with the silver medal.
