In February 2010 the Government launched a consultation on its proposal to build a high speed rail network which will shave an hour of the current journey time from Manchester and Liverpool to London – making the trip just 80 minutes long.
Offering speeds of 250kph, the high speed rail network, entitled HS2, is estimated to bring £44bn in benefits to the UK economy.
An independent national campaign backed by businesses of all sizes across the UK has been launched to support the proposal and is already backed Chief Executive and Director General of Merseytravel, Neil Scales OBE and Clive Memmott, Chief Executive of the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce.
So, if you want faster journeys across the UK, access to up to 14 trains an hour, each with up to 1,100 seats, and extra capacity on existing lines for passengers and freight, now is the time to show your support for High Speed Rail and get on board to support the campaign and add your signature to a letter to the press.
Sign up to the letter and the campaign by 6th April 2011 by visiting www.campaignforhsr.com.
