Exploratory investigations could lead to permanent wells to produce gas for up to 50 years and the company will decide next year if it is to pursue the scheme, which would be subject to government approval.
Mark Miller, chief executive, told the Blackpool Gazette: “The most positive thing is this is a new industry from the private sector. This is going to create highly skilled jobs – that’s the biggest news. This is not short term and it will build a real talent base.”
