A supermarket which established itself online with help from seoBusiness has increased the scale of its digital marketing as it continues to grow its customer base around the UK.

Newcastle-based HIYOU stocks foods and other products sourced from Asia, particularly China. In 2021, the company tested the waters of ecommerce, and enlisted Blackburn-based digital marketing agency seoBusiness to help raise awareness among potential customers across the country.

A search engine optimisation (SEO) campaign began in July of last year and quickly saw the retailer achieve prominent positions across a variety of relevant keywords on key search engines such as Google. The result was an influx of interest and orders for HIYOU, which subsequently extended its digital marketing to include pay-per-click (PPC) advertising in November.

The digital marketing proved so successful, with HIYOU securing new customers from across the UK, that it has once more increased the scale of its investment with seoBusiness. This will see the supermarket appear in the search results for a broader range of search terms, increasing its visibility among a wider set of potential customers.

Latif Kothia, director of seoBusiness, said: “When we first met with HIYOU we recognised that the company had a great deal of potential and we were keen to show them how our digital marketing could introduce them to a nationwide customer base.

“The volume of ecommerce shoppers grew phenomenally during the Covid-19 pandemic and HIYOU has been able to capitalise on this demand. Everything we have done for them so far has provided excellent returns on investment, and I still believe that there is much, much more to come from this exciting and ambitious company.”

Jun Lau, owner of HIYOU, first approached seoBusiness after undertaking a nationwide search of digital marketing specialists. He said: “We spoke to three digital marketing specialists and seoBusiness was clearly the best fit for us. They asked the most insightful questions about what we are hoping to achieve and submitted the most in-depth plan showing how we could reach our goals.

“Our approach has always been much more modern than traditional Asian supermarkets and our investment in ecommerce and SEO is an example of this.”

Search engine optimisation is a key tool in raising a company’s visibility online as an estimated 70 per cent of web traffic begins with a search engine query. However, positioning is crucial as 50 per cent of Google users only click the top three results, and fewer than 10 per cent click on to the second page of results.
