A team from self storage and removals firm Andrew Porter Ltd has raised almost £600 for their chosen charity Derian House Children’s Hospice.
Four staff members were sponsored to run the Wigan 10K this weekend and a fifth, on holiday in New York, ran the distance in Central Park to support her colleagues.
Andrew Porter Ltd, based in Adlington, already helps the charity by collecting unwanted furniture and items from its customers, delivering these to Derian’s warehouse where they can be sorted and sold in charity shops.
Group accounts manager Mandi Casey said: “The run went really well, we all really enjoyed it and the support from the crowd was amazing. There are literally hundreds of people lining the streets, cheering you along.
“We all started off together but ran our own races. Aaron Bryant and Joe Gray completed the distance in 56 minutes. I did it in 1 hour 3 minutes and it was wonderful have Aaron and Joe there to cheer me across the finish line.
“Carl Bradley finished in 1 hour 7 minutes, which was fantastic as he only stepped in on Friday night as Simon Blakeley couldn’t make the race due to unexpected family commitments.
“Gabby Whittle couldn’t take part in the event as she was in New York, however she did run the 10k around Central Park at the same time!”
Managing director Tim Aspey commented: “I am really proud of the team. They all really got behind the event and encouraged their friends, family and colleagues to support this fantastic local charity that works so hard for families throughout the region.”
