Starry-eyed school children were thrilled to take part in Valentine’s celebrations, as a popular Pendle eatery treated the youngsters to some tasty heart shaped delicacies.
The Barley Mow in Pendle, owned by the award-winning Seafood Pub Company, teamed up with St. Mary's C of E Primary School in Newchurch, giving children the chance to take part in a competition in which they could design their own Valentine’s treats.Jonny Parkinson, general manager at the Barley Mow, said: “Valentine’s Day is a great chance to share the love, and we thought it’d be good to get involved within the local community.
“St Mary’s is just up the road, and many of the parents and staff are regulars at the Barley Mow; we wanted to do something nice for the children.”The winner, Mia Pinder, a Year 4 pupil, was picked by the group’s executive chef Antony Shirley who was impressed with her creativity and attention to detail. The winning prize was Mia’s very own design made into heart shaped chocolate biscuits, topped with white icing and marshmallows, for her and all her school mates.
He said: “There were some great entries and it really was tough to choose a winner. Thanks to all the pupils who got involved, we enjoyed baking the treats and sharing the love!”As well as a tasty treat to enjoy, Mia’s winning design won her a voucher for lunch for four at the Barley Mow, a great opportunity for the family to visit the venue with the Easter holidays just around the corner.
“We were delighted when the Barley Mow got in touch about working together for Valentine’s Day,” said Pauline Nightingale, headteacher. “The children loved designing the biscuits; it was a fantastic activity and a nice touch when the general manager paid us a visit to hand deliver the treats and surprise Mia with a lunch club voucher.”
