It’s been almost a month down the line since inviting Blackpool, Wyre & Fylde coast businesses to the first RKMS network event.
The morning which took place on Wednesday 19th April, ran from 9.30am – 11.30am from our Blackpool based Training Centre, located on Blackpool’s Enterprise Zone, saw a number of business owners and senior leaders come together to discuss local topics, network and connect with other local businesses within the area.
“As a business whose foundations are firmly established in the local and wider Lancashire community, we were amazed at the uptake of how many attendees came through the RKMS doors, we actually had to close the registrations link as the interest was truly phenomenal. It shows just how positive, passionate and engaged our community really is.”
Rebecca Keen, operations director, RKMS Group, said: "We had a number of local companies and local up-and-coming initiatives take centre stage to spread their knowledge. RKMS discussed the hot topic of Carbon Neutrality, after our recent success in achieving PAS 2060 and becoming the first 3rd party certificated business in Blackpool.
"Terry Hodkinson from Blackpool Carers was able to spread the word about the amazing work they do for the local community and the information, guidance and support they can offer to anyone who requires it, and ways in which individuals and businesses can get involved, this resulted in some brilliant conversations on the day and since then Warren Langford of Lab Creative and Helen Houghton of Multi-ply Components have continued discussions on how they can get involved.
"Lastly Sam Smith from the ‘I Can Trust’ network told us about all the work they are doing to improve the lives of our younger generation and the initiative that he will be building up locally."
We have received amazing feedback following the event, here is what they had to say....
What was the best part of the event and why?
Stephanie Evans, Imperial hotel - I enjoyed learning about the other people there and what they do; it was lovely hearing some attendees offering their support to their peers during the introductions.
Paula Davis, Coastal Radio - The Networking (and Danish’s!)
Jane Fillis from Harrison Drury - variety of interesting speakers.
Any other comments/ Feedback / Testimonial
Warren Langford, Lab Creative - The event was excellent, since starting my business I have been to so many events - some good, some bad… yours was great, very welcoming and I have already made some good connections and some strong partnerships to come from this (Blackpool Carers and Sam Smith and his initiatives).
Helen Houghton of Multi-Ply Components Ltd - The event was extremely beneficial for us and whilst not all material was relevant to our industry, it was great to meet likeminded professionals and of those connections we met on the day, we are extremely grateful to have been able to join! A big thank you again for the invitation and for making it such a fantastic event!
Josh Reilly, lead project manager at RKMS Group, goes on to say: "Working with many businesses across Blackpool, Wyre & The Fylde Coast, it was a delight to meet so many contacts face to face, including Ian Mallam from local owned business, Digitav."
The idea of this networking group is to create a sense of community for local businesses, a place for locals to come together, not only to build working relationships, but to identify ways to help the local community, we have discussed ways in which we can help from beach clean ups and tidying pathways to grocery shopping for the elderly within the community. RKMS want to make a difference and we are driven to creating a circular economy.
After the success of this first event, we put it out to vote, if people would like it to become a regular occurrence and we received a resounding YES response! So, for anyone interested and wanting to get involved we will be looking to run these events each quarter, further details will be announced in the coming months. We look forward to launching our next event with the support of the local business community.
