Working from home is firmly on the agenda in 2021, and we are seeing many candidates preferring contracts and roles that contain remote working possibilities.
In fact, some won’t consider roles that do not offer it.
Having a remote working offer in your job description could certainly tip the scales in your favour where candidates have other options - as is the case in many industries at present.
Is WFH likely to continue? The odds seem to be in favour of a ‘yes’. It has a lot to offer all round.
That said, you do need the right management and support in place. In the long-term, the most likely result will be a new way of working - a sort of hybrid between office and home working with clearer, goal-centric, working practices when out of the office and a more social, interaction-based approach when working on site.
The secondary issue is one that we are hearing from candidates and clients alike. Candidates remain cautious of moving and are nervous about change. In short, people still want stability, and so are less likely to apply for a job speculatively.
Employers need to be aware of the changing criteria that will determine whether a candidate will apply for a role or look to leave a current position.
In some cases offering a WFH option to a current or potential employee may actually have more impact than a rise in salary.
At the moment we are seeing that a boom in vacancies is certainly out there but candidates are turning to the recruitment agencies they trust to help them make the decision to apply.
