Nelson-based salon, spa and barber equipment specialist REM UK has appointed a compliance officer to further its journey to net zero.
Nina Akrigg will oversee REM's processes and systems as the company moves towards being leaner and greener.
The company, which can trace its heritage back more than a century, produces a range of furniture and fittings from reception desks to wash units to motorised beauty couches.
One of its main efforts in recent years has been to bring much of its overseas manufacturing home to the UK. Over the last 10 years, the company has reduced the volume of its imported goods from 30 per cent to five per cent.
In addition to significantly reducing its carbon footprint, the move has also dramatically cut lead times and negated the global supply chain issues of the last few years.
Nina said: "I’m proud to join a company that is looking into its own impact and looking at different ways we can change. We are documenting our waste on ERP waste management which is highlighting which areas of waste we need to tackle first.
"We are working closely with the Chamber of Commerce to guide us in the correct direction for us as a company to minimise our carbon footprint and aim for net zero."
