Community bike repair group Reddish Men in Sheds has received a £500 funding boost from Five Star rated homebuilder, Miller Homes, helping the group continue its mission to provide affordable bikes and a social hub for older men in the Cheshire area.
Founded in 2014, Reddish Men in Sheds brings together a group of volunteers who repair donated bicycles, selling them at low prices to make cycling accessible to everyone.
The group also donates children’s bikes to a local school at Christmas and during the summer holidays, alongside community groups benefiting all ages to access training, employment or to boost their physical and mental health.
As well as promoting exercise and sustainable transport, the project provides a vital social space for older men in the community, tackling loneliness and isolation.
The donation from Miller Homes will contribute towards the group’s running costs, helping to keep their workshop open.
As a not-for-profit organisation, Reddish Men in Sheds relies on funding to cover essentials like rent and utilities, ensuring they can continue providing an affordable service to the community.
Mary Lorigan, Secretary at Reddish Men in Sheds, said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to receive this support from Miller Homes.
"Our group is about so much more than just fixing bikes—it’s about keeping people connected, active, and engaged. This funding will help us ‘keep on pedalling’ and ensure we can keep providing a space for men to meet, share skills, and support each other.”
Clare Noakes, sales director at Miller Homes North West, added: “Reddish Men in Sheds is a brilliant community initiative that not only promotes cycling but provides a real lifeline for many older men in the area. We’re delighted to support them through our Community Fund and help them continue the amazing work they do.”
The donation from Miller Homes is part of the homebuilder’s 2025 Community Fund, which was established to support good causes, local groups, charities, and community organisations near its developments. Grants ranging from £200 to £2,000 are available to help these organisations thrive. Applications for the next round of the Community Fund will open on 19th March.
