Preston-based waste management specialist Recycling Lives has appointed Phil McDonald as head of procurement.
Phil previously worked within Tarmac Ltd, where his experience included leading capital expenditure procurement in the UK covering quarries and cement plants, and in operational services handling procurement for turnkey, mechanical, electrical, civil and engineering projects.
He also worked within DAF Trucks NV, handling relationships with suppliers, including requirements with respect to quality, total cost, technology, delivery, customer service, aftermarket support and logistics.
In his new role, Phil is tasked with developing and delivering a more sustainable supply chain at Recycling Lives as the company aims to become a leader in the UK’s circular economy sector.
He will work closely with the sustainability team to ensure alignment of the procurement function and suppliers with the strategic aims of the business across areas including plant and machinery maintenance, capital machinery purchases, transport and energy.
Phil said: “Sustainability was a big part of my previous roles along with purchasing to deliver optimum value while meeting objectives including quality, service, and safety. We will develop and apply a wide spectrum of assessment criteria for supplier retention and selection, to ensure our supply chain shares the Recycling Lives’ economic, social and governance ethos.”
Recycling Lives employs more than 500 people across the UK and has 18 sites nationwide, including Preston (head office and Recycling Park), the Metal and Waste Recycling operation in Hitchin, Bury, Birkenhead, Durham, Falkirk, Hockley, Leyland, Northampton, Walsall, Workington and Cox's Lane - Cradley Heath.
