As a family-run business with a commitment to our local community, we believe in educating young people about our sector and how our work and the work of other transport operations can impact their daily lives.
This January, we were pleased to return to Burnley College’s annual networking event for young people exploring career opportunities in the local area.
“It was a pleasure to once again be involved with this event,” says F&W head of HR, Emma Wearden. “We all had a brilliant day speaking with young adults who were interested in what we do and the apprenticeship opportunities we have to offer.
“We’re starting to see a change in the areas of our industry that young people are attracted to, which was not only interesting and somewhat unexpected, but really exciting! Whereas we’d usually attend this event to promote our Warehousing and Business Administration apprenticeships, we found that this year there were a lot of people interested in apprenticeships in finance or our vehicle workshop, which is something we’re looking to develop further.
“Recently, we’ve had two apprentices join us in new roles. Our new AAT Level 2 apprentice, Stephanie O’Leary, has actually been with us since December 2021 as an administrative assistant, and she’s excited to move into finance at the end of February ready for the start of her apprenticeship studies this September.
“In May last year, we also welcomed Sarah Egan on board to study her apprenticeship in HR with us, delivered through Blackburn College. Sarah works with me directly, and I’ve found her to be an incredible asset to the team. I can’t remember how I coped without her!”
As an established third-party logistics provider with almost 100 years of service and operational bases in Lancashire and the Midlands, we are proud to offer a range of practical apprenticeships to help start the career of those looking to enter the UK transport industry.
Delivered in conjunction with Themis, the apprenticeships we offer provide comprehensive training and the opportunity to develop key transferable skills. Combining written projects and exams with practical, on-the-job learning, Themis also provides personal development training on interview techniques and career progression.
