The Prince’s Trust has teamed up with pub company and brewer Greene King to deliver specialist training for unemployed young people in Blackpool.
The Get Into Hospitality training is a two-week course designed to help 16 to 30-year-olds gain the skills required to begin a career within the resort's biggest industry,
Candidates will learn about various aspects of hospitality, including customer service, alcohol licensing laws and food preparation. As well as being taught in the classroom, students will gain skills during placements in Greene King pubs.
Subject to successfully completing the programme, Greene King aims to offer jobs to as many course participants as possible. Since the start of its partnership with The Prince’s Trust in 2016, Greene King has helped 250 young people into work, challenging the barriers of social mobility and create opportunities for people from all backgrounds.
Graham Briggs, head of apprenticeship and employability programmes at Greene King, said: “We’re really excited to return to Blackpool with our Get Into Hospitality programme which we deliver with the brilliant support from The Prince’s Trust.
"Working in pubs can be really rewarding and we hope joining the programme will be a first step on the hospitality career ladder for young people in the local area. Following the completion of the programme, we hope to offer candidates the opportunity for permanent work and welcome them to the Greene King family.”
Emily Larkin, head of corporate partnerships at The Prince’s Trust said: "Young people are facing one of the toughest employment environments in a generation. Now more than ever, we need to support young people to develop employability skills and secure access to meaningful job opportunities in careers that can change their lives.
"Our partnership aims to provide insight into the wide range of roles the hospitality sector has to offer, supporting young people to be work ready and secure job opportunities in the sector and beyond. We look forward to working alongside Greene King to help those who need our support the most."
A Taster Day on 8 March precedes the programme, which runs 14 to 25 of March. Details can be found here.
