Fire fighters last night tackled a large blaze that engulfed a plastics factory at Walton Summit.

The £47m turnover Total Polyfilm site, which employs around 200 staff, was reported to be alight in the early hours of Wednesday morning where fire crews took more than five hours to bring the fire under control.
An official statement on the Lancashire Fire and Rescue website reads: "In the early hours of Wednesday morning firefighters from Bamber Bridge were called to reports of a fire at an industrial unit after receiving reports that there was smoke in the maintenance dept."Initially two crews from Bamber Bridge attended and soon increased the response to 10 fire engines and two aerial ladder platforms. The ground floor of a two storey building approximately 100m by 50m was heavily smoke logged.
"The building has been severely damaged by the fire and the cause of is currently not yet known. A fire investigation is now underway."
