Organising events can be a complicated and stressful business. Amongst all the things you need to arrange like catering, sound & lights, staging… it is easy – not to mention dangerous – to let a fundamental element like Health & Safety fall through the cracks.
For this reason it is important to ensure that Health & Safety is prioritised to identify the risks and put plans in place beforehand, rather than let them emerge as a horrible surprise during the event itself.
If a business is found to have been negligent in the provision of its Health & Safety systems, there could follow prosecution leading to major fines and, in the most severe cases, imprisonment.
Hence it is important that as much consideration is put into the selection of a Health & Safety partner as there would for the caterers, for instance. The focus should be on hands-on experts who can view the site and make informed, common-sense decisions. Beware those who deliver a ‘one-size-fits-all’ solution after minimal time on site. That way everyone can focus on enjoying themselves when the lights go up!
