Where has the time gone?! A year has passed since our Future-bound training scheme was launched, and we felt it was only right to take a look back on the incredible achievements we’ve had since it began.
Initially launched in response to the national HGV driver shortage, we founded the Future-bound scheme in 2021 in order to encourage interest in the transport industry and make driving careers more accessible.
The scheme is a 12-week structured driver training programme that invites applicants with a UK driving licence to work towards their professional HGV qualification, beginning with a 3.5-tonne vehicle and allowing them to progress to a 12-tonne, 18-tonne, and eventually 44-tonne vehicle.
The Future-bound scheme is run by our training and development team, and is led by our training manager, Gareth Jones, alongside our DSA-qualified trainer, Martin Neal.
Over the last year, we’ve achieved a fantastic 90 per cent pass rate – and have graduated three students from varying levels of experience to becoming Class 1 and Class 2 HGV licence holders – meaning they now hold a C+E licence.
We are thrilled with the successes of our in-house training scheme so far and would like to say a massive thank you to our drivers for their hard work and dedication over the last year, as well as to the training team who have upheld the high standards and quality that F&W is known for.
A huge congratulations to our Future-bound graduate students:
Dean Moss – who passed his Class 2 HGV test on 07/09/21, before passing his Class 1 HGV test on 15/03/22 Nick Martin – who passed his Class 2 HGV test on 08/06/22 Craig Brook – who passed his Class 1 HGV test on 23/06/22“We’re exceptionally pleased with the success of our Future-bound scheme, and take pride in the fact that our scheme equips drivers for a lifetime of success on the road, preparing them not only to pass their test, but for the ins and outs of their day-to-day role,” explains F&W head of compliance, Martyn Richardson.
“At a time when getting into the HGV industry has proven to be more challenging than ever, it’s great to be doing our bit to tackle the national shortage of drivers, as well as making driving careers more accessible.
“At Fagan & Whalley, we strive to deliver quality in everything we do, and our Future-bound scheme has been no exception. We’re thrilled with the successes of all of our Future-bound graduates over the last year – and we’re looking forward to another year of success."
