Scott Goldsworthy, 22, a Web Developer for digital marketing agency Bespoke | Web Specialists, is hoping to secure a one-way ticket to the Red Planet- putting the Preston company on the map as the world's first intergalactic digital marketing agency!
From the initial 200,000 applicants, only 100 hopefuls were selected to proceed to the next round of the astronaut selection process. Scott Goldsworthy, a Web & Multimedia graduate from UCLan, is one of them with the aim to help space colonists access the internet on Mars. The successful laypersons were selected from a pool of candidates after participating in personal online interviews. During the interviews the candidates had a chance to show their understanding of the risks involved, team spirit and their motivation to be part of this life changing expedition.
Of the 100 candidates who have passed the second round, 50 were men and 50 were women. This includes 39 from America, 31 from Europe, 16 from Asia, 7 from Africa, and 7 from Oceania.Scott said: “As a young boy I was always interested in outer space and my fascination was fueled when I was bought a telescope for my birthday. When the opportunity came to apply to go to Mars I jumped at the chance of achieving my life long dream.
“A lifetime on Mars would be a lot more enjoyable with an internet connection. Fingers crossed we pass the following selection rounds so Bespoke can open up a new branch on the Red Planet to help civilisation go online.”Notes to editors:
