An extension to the award-winning Worden Park has been given the go-ahead as part of a masterplan for Leyland.
Two applications to develop a site off Shaw Brook Road have been passed by South Ribble Council.
Twenty per cent of the homes on the land, which is bounded by Altcar Lane, Shaw Brook Road, Worden Park and Leyland Lane, will be affordable. An equivalent number of this type of accommodation will be provided elsewhere in the borough.
Councillor Cliff Hughes, South Ribble Borough Council’s Cabinet Member with responsibility for Strategic Planning and Housing, said: “Together these schemes will offer a good mix of quality homes to help us meet the demands of the area, including affordable properties targeted at first-time buyers, which is a great way of making sure our bright young people can afford to stay in the town.
As well as providing new homes, the £240m City Deal will create up to 20,000 new jobs and will transform transport links across the area. The once-in-a-lifetime funding programme will transform Central Lancashire, creating thousands of new jobs and homes, while increasing the size of the local economy by £1bn.
“More importantly we can now get on with delivering 200 new homes. The approval of the application is the culmination of many months of partnership work between ourselves and the council, as well as working with the local community to take on board their views. We are particularly pleased to be able to be facilitating the expansion of Worden Park through the development of the site.”
