A gathering of 50 top level guests from the worlds of commerce and industry, higher education and the public sector came together last night for Lancashire Business View’s prestigious Lancashire Leaders’ dinner.
The annual event at Northcote was a chance for the county’s leaders to meet, network and share their experiences.
The select gathering also heard from the evening’s guest speaker, former national newspaper editor, TV presenter, businesswoman and campaigner Eve Pollard.“The first lady of Fleet Street” spoke of her experiences during her career in the media, and the national and international leaders she has met during that time – from Prime Ministers to Presidents.
She also spoke of the need for strong leadership and told the audience of her fears that it had “gone out of fashion”.The exclusively invited gathering enjoyed a pre-dinner reception and three course meal at the venue near Langho. They were welcomed to the event by Lancashire Business View publisher Richard Slater. He said: "Whether in business, in politics, in academia or in civic life, those in leadership positions have too few opportunities to break bread together, relax, share thoughts, ideas and opportunities.
Richard Slater, publisher of Lancashire Business View, said: “Whether in business, in politics, in academia or in civic life, those in leadership positions have too few opportunities to break bread together, relax, share thoughts, ideas and opportunities. “Some lead in a very public environment, where decisions and ideas are scrutinised in detail by sections of the public and the media. In many cases critics - remain faceless and nameless. “Others have the no less difficult task of leading in a more private environment, but still where decisions affect the livelihoods of those around them.”
Earlier in the day an invited group of panellists, including Eve, came together to discuss leadership issues and qualities.Issues discussed included the need for strong leaders in uncertain times and the role of women in business and in leadership.
The panel included Lancashire Leaders’ sponsors Every1, HSBC, Prosperity Law and RSM.A full review of this event will be available in the March/April edition of Lancashire Business View. Subscribe here.
