Colne-based Modern Milkman has appointed experienced retail executive Anwar Sultan as chief growth and commercial officer.
Anwar holds a wealth of experience in the digital, e-commerce and retail sectors. He was previously the chief digital and strategy officer for Ello Group, where he spent nearly five years as a board director, leading digital, technology, product, marketing, data, and group strategy.
Prior to that, he spent two years at The Hut Group as global marketing director, spearheading marketing, e-commerce, and data across the group’s portfolio of beauty and own brands, globally.
Anwar has also spent time working both client-side and in-agency for some of the UK’s and Europe’s biggest retail brands, developing digital and growth programmes whilst coaching, developing, and building high-performance teams.
The announcement comes after Modern Milkman announced a total of £50m in funding following the closure of its series C investment round. With plans to utilise both existing and new investment to pioneer data and digital technologies to drive sustainability solutions across the grocery sector, Anwar has been hired to lead UK and global operations and help to drive the Modern Milkman’s growth and commercial strategies.
Simon Mellin, CEO and founder at Modern Milkman, says: “We are very excited that Anwar is joining the Modern Milkman team. As he takes up the role of chief growth and commercial officer, he brings with him experiences from around the world that will bolster our offering here in the UK and drive our global ambitions.
"I am looking forward to watching him work his magic as the Modern Milkman continues to thrive and expand throughout 2023.”
Anwar said: “I’m thrilled to be joining the team at Modern Milkman and want to thank Simon and the senior team for bringing me into the fold.
"I feel now is a fantastic time to join as the brand continues to go from strength-to-strength and I am overjoyed to be playing a part in the incredible projects that are in the pipeline for 2023. The challenge of making our future greener and cleaner by changing consumer habits was just too good to turn down!"
