MC Repairs, a specialist in dental equipment repairs, has cut their carbon emissions by 60 per cent with support from the Blackpool Net Zero Business Academy.
The family-run business, led by managing director Carl Wise, has implemented a range of sustainability initiatives as part of its aim to become the UK’s first net-zero dental repair shop.
Recognising the increasing focus on net-zero initiatives, Carl Wise sought expert guidance from the Blackpool Net Zero Business Academy, to help them understand how to implement greener practices in their operations.
The Academy connected him with Sustainability Specialist Caitlin Sanderson, who conducted a comprehensive energy audit of the company’s Blackpool premises.
The audit resulted in a personalised decarbonisation action plan, outlining practical steps to reduce emissions and improve efficiency.
One of the first changes saw the installation of an 88-panel Solar PV system, which has led to an annual carbon saving of over 6.01tCO2e. Additionally, upgrading the premises to 100 per cent LED lighting with motion sensors has further reduced energy waste, cutting emissions by an estimated 100kgCO2e.
Further sustainability measures include the transition to an all-electric fleet, the introduction of an EV salary sacrifice scheme for employees, optimised voltage use, and plans to install an Air Source Heat Pump with intelligent thermostatic controls to improve heating efficiency.
MC Repairs’ dedication to sustainability has been recognised at a regional level, with the business being shortlisted as a finalist in the Environmental, Social and Governance category at the 2025 Lancashire Business View Red Rose Awards.
This recognition highlights its commitment to making meaningful environmental changes while maintaining operational efficiency.
Carl Wise praised the Blackpool Net Zero Business Academy’s support, said: “The support we have received has been practical, knowledgeable, and tailored to our business needs.
"Caitlin Sanderson and the team are incredibly helpful; they break everything down in a way that is easy to understand and implement. They don’t just offer theoretical advice; they provide actionable solutions that we were able to apply immediately.”
With the Blackpool Net Zero Business Academy’s support, the company is well on its way to achieving its ambitious environmental goals.
