Maundy Relief, the Accrington based charity, has raised an amazing £1,000 following a challenge from Accrington Stanley chairman Andy Holt.
After a chance meeting at October’s Accrington Stanley foodbank collection at The Wham Stadium, in aid of Maundy, Mr Holt handed Lucy Hardwick, manager at Maundy Relief, £100 and challenged her to turn it into £500.
A challenge which both Ms Hardwick and the Maundy team relished and following the 2021 Accrington Christmas Light Switch On, they had almost doubled the target set by the Accrington Stanley chairman.
Ms Hardwick said: “We used the £100 from Andy to purchase chocolate, baskets and wrapping paper to create some lovely chocolate hampers.
"They were the centrepiece of our stall at the wonderful #AmazingAccrington Christmas Light Switch On. It was such a fantastic event, the busiest I've ever seen Accrington - the baskets sold really well and we made a total of £478.60 from Andy's £100."
“A supporter then very kindly doubled that, so we have generated £957 from Andy Holt’s extremely generous investment, which is all going towards helping those in need this Christmas who rely on our service including preparing food parcels for families, so we can’t thank him enough for his support.”
Maundy Relief is known in the Hyndburn community for being a frontline response team who immediately help anyone in need. Their services are open to all and include help with physical, mental and emotional health.
