Pendleside’s head of income generation Louisa Mayor raised an incredible £2,380 for the hospice with her 35-day running challenge.
To celebrate Pendleside Hospice’s 35th birthday this year, many staff members decided to set up their own fundraising initiatives for the charity. Louisa decided to run 3.5 miles, everyday, for 35 days, with a target of raising £350.
Initially only asking for £3.50 donations to keep with the theme, Louisa has been blown away by the generous support of family, friends and supporters.
Louisa said: “I hit my target within a couple of days of starting the challenge, which was phenomenal. I had to keep on increasing it, and on the day of my last run, on the 31st October, my goal was £1,750. To then reach £2,380 is nothing short of amazing.
"However, that last jump in funds probably had something to do with me completing my final run as Pendleside’s mascot, Penny the squirrel! It was incredibly difficult, and incredibly hot, but if it brought in more donations, then I’m happy.
"I wanted to raise money, not only for the organisation I work for, but the place I love. I see first-hand what an amazing difference Pendleside makes, so I just wanted to do my bit, and tying it into the hospice’s 35th birthday celebrations seemed like the perfect opportunity.
"I like to keep active in my everyday life, but the challenge I set myself was tough at times. I continually kept my Strava and social pages updated with progress, and I’ve had some fantastic support from colleagues. In order to fit the runs into my busy schedule, they would often find me running along the canal during lunch breaks, or I would accompany Pendleside’s running club after work.
"I’m proud of myself for completing it and it’s with thanks to those around me who kept me going with ongoing support and donations.”
