What does your logo say about your business? Our designers have compiled the following list of do’s and don’ts to help you decide whether it’s time for a refresh.

Do

Be original and keep it simple

Your logo should stand out and reflect the unique personality of your brand. Our brains like things that are easy to process and relate to, so avoid using too many colours and unnecessary words. A simple, eye-catching logo will inspire people to find out more about your business.

Use the right colours and fonts

Most people are familiar with the concept of colour psychology. Using this to your advantage will ensure your logo resonates with your audience. The typeface should also fit your brand’s voice and goals. Novelty or complicatedvfonts should always be avoided.

Disconnect images from text

You may think your logo is the perfect combination of icon and text. However, being able to separate these will make it much more shareable on social media.

Don’t

Use stock images or clip art

Your logo should be unique and original. If you are using a stock image or clip art, chances are the same one is being used by another business somewhere else in the world. Additionally, in most cases it’s against the licensing agreement to use stock images in a logo.

Stretch it

A professional business should look professional. Nothing screams amateur logo design more than stretched out logos, fonts, images and icons.

Follow trends

Unless you want your logo to blend in with everyone else’s, don’t follow trends. These come and go and what’s on-trend now will become outdated in a year or so. A well-designed logo should be timeless. Is your logo still current? If you’re still not sure how your logo measures up, you can always contact us for an honest evaluation. Whether you’re considering a subtle refresh or a complete rebrand, our experienced designers will advice you every step of the way.
