Lynn Everson, director of Preston-based Lifeline Language Services, will be a keynote speaker at a seminar at the House of Lords on 19th November 2015
Speaking in her role as president of Business & Professional Women (BPW) UK, Lynn will address delegates of the “Women and Business – A Woman's Right to Entrepreneurship” seminar organised by the British Federation of Women Graduates and sponsored by Baroness Garden of Frognal. As the first of three keynote speakers on the day, Lynn’s speech entitled Conquering the Fear of Success will focus on seizing opportunities as a woman entrepreneur and not being held back by self-doubt. Lynn says: “Gender stereotyping is a massive barrier for women, beginning at birth, continuing in education and the media and into employment. It will remain so until gender equality is fully embraced by schools, parents and businesses. To remove this feeling of being ancillary to men, businesswomen have to overcome the self-inhibition which limits their success. Stereotyping also leaves many senior women feeling isolated, without the corporate support networks more numerous male colleagues accumulate. “It’s a fact that empowered women transform societies, so key is getting young women to want to be part of that. We’re unsure why, but many lose momentum at university – when they should be accelerating. To tackle this BPW has this year implemented Student and Apprentice Memberships, to help members prepare for interviews and cold networking at this key life stage, followed by Young BPW membership as they move into their professional lives. We’re seeking to provide a professional life framework, something badly lacking for most career women currently. “Beyond that, we believe every professional woman should look to mentor at least three more, building both succession and a better balance in society.”Enjoyed this?
