A Lancashire business leader has warned that the county will be side lined and left behind if its political leaders cannot agree to establish a new Combined Authority next year.
The chief executive of private sector lobby group and business networking club Downtown in Business, Frank McKenna, has spoken out following the decision of Wyre Borough Council leader Peter Gibson to oppose the Combined Authority plans.
“It is clear that the government, and chancellor George Osborne in particular, is determined to create a Northern Powerhouse. By snubbing the initiative of a collective voice for the county, Coun Gibson is consigning us to the First Division when Lancashire belongs in the Premier League.
“I would challenge all of those who argue against a Combined Authority to at least have the courage of their convictions, consult with stakeholders and let business leaders and the wider community of Lancashire have their say.”
