Business is booming for Lancashire-based Andrew Porter Ltd as it expands its self storage facilities to meet growing demand.
The storage and home removals firm is based in Adlington, near Chorley, but expanded into Kendal with a purpose-built self storage facility in December 2018. The firm quickly realised there was a high demand for storage in the area and has been adding capacity to the site ever since.
When Andrew Porter first branched out into the Lake District, it had just 27 indoor and outdoor storage units at its new site. Now there are a total of 138 units, including 27 which are part of the latest expansion.
Out of the newest units, 11 were rented out within a week of becoming available and a further 20 outdoor units with drive-up access are now being planned.
The company was founded in Lancashire in 1973 as a home removals firm, opening a self-storage warehouse at its Adlington site in 2017. While lockdown and increased restrictions have made trading challenging for many businesses across the UK, demand for self-storage has continued to grow.
Manager Stephen Gregson, who has been overseeing the latest expansion, said: “There are so many different reasons people come to us for self-storage – some are business owners looking for somewhere to store stock or equipment, while others may be in the middle of moving house. We have also found many of our customers are people looking to create more space in their own homes, something which has been especially important during the restrictions of the past few months.”
