Mental health charity Lancashire Mind is once again running its Love from Lancashire photography competition which celebrates the beauty and diversity of Lancashire and the positive effect the outdoors can have on our wellbeing.
The competition runs from 19 July until the closing date on 26 August and is open to all ages and all abilities. Twelve of the pictures submitted will be chosen at the end of the competition to go into the Lancashire Mind calendar for 2023.
The charity is asking people to share photographs of places they love and places that can boost your sense of wellbeing or simply places that hold special memories.
Love from Lancashire was originally devised in 2020 when the whole of the country was in the midst of the first lockdown. It was a way of bringing people together and showcasing the diverse beauty of Lancashire at a time when people were only able to venture out locally and there were many places that people missed visiting.
Fundraising Lead at Lancashire Mind, Emma Bateson said: “Love from Lancashire has proved to be one of our most successful campaigns both in terms in of public engagement and the amount we are able to raise from the sales of the calendars later in the year – last year we raised over £2,000.
“The cost of producing the calendar is covered by our sponsors, Lancashire businesses, so every penny from the sale of the calendars is donated to Lancashire Mind to support the services we provide. It’s now become a firm fixture in our, and no pun intended here, campaign calendar.”
Pictures can be submitted taken from anywhere in Lancashire.
“Love from Lancashire is all about bringing people together to celebrate Lancashire whilst helping Lancashire Mind work towards our vision of Mental Wellbeing for All.
”The pictures can be of famous landmarks but equally we are looking for hidden areas of beauty and simple moments of calm captured. We are looking for images from any season and taken at any time. We want people to use the competition as an opportunity to 'Take Notice', which is one of the five ways to wellbeing.”
The competition runs until 26 August but photos from any month can be submitted and the team at Lancashire Mind are always keen to see winter images as well as summer ones.
Emma added: “The great thing about Love from Lancashire is that it’s so inclusive. Anyone can take part in the competition, whether you are new to photography or have been taking photos for years. You can use your phone, tablet or camera. The most important thing is getting outside, getting involved and enjoying it.”
Sales from the calendar, which will showcase the winning twelve pictures, helps support the work that Lancashire Mind does to make a difference to the mental health of people living and working in Lancashire.
