Mental health charity Lancashire Mind is appealing for support for its Boundary Breakers this week.
Last week saw the charity kick off Mental Health Awareness Week by re-launching its successful Breaking Boundaries campaign.
Lancashire Mind set the enormous challenge to collectively walk the 417-mile equivalent of the old Lancashire border not once but FOUR times! Members of the public signed up to walk, run, hop, skip, whatever they could to help the charity reach its target.
Halfway through the twelve day challenge and the Boundary Breakers have completed half the distance. But with another two laps to compete in the remaining days, Lancashire Mind are asking for support to help spur on their Boundary Breakers.
Breaking Boundaries was launched last year to raise awareness about better mental health for all; to celebrate Lancashire; and to encourage people to get active during lockdown at the same time as raising funds for the charity.
Lancashire Mind has lost up to 40 per cent of its fundraising income in the last 12 months due to cancelled events.
Emma Bateson, fund raising lead at Lancashire Mind, said: “Our Boundary Breakers have done an amazing job so far and we really want to encourage them on to complete the final three laps.
“Everyone has mental health and as a charity we are here for the 4 in 4 as well as the 1 in 4 who live with a mental health condition. We are doing this for everyone as everyone in Lancashire deserves to have good mental health.
“The businesses of Lancashire can still help and get behind the campaign by donating whatever they are able to, send messages of encouragement to our social media pages or even sign themselves up to our corporate challenge. Businesses can sign up right until the last day and every mile and every single penny helps us.
And who knows you may be crowned our first Breaking Boundaries Corporate Champions!”
Lancashire Mind work to raise awareness of mental health issues and inspire action to promote the message of good mental health for all.
Tommy McIlravey CEO at Lancashire Mind said: “We believe that there should be no barriers to people achieving good mental health and wellbeing and we work continually to break boundaries and lead a mental wellbeing revolution.
“It’s important for us to help start discussions and dispel the stigma around mental health and wellbeing. Mental Health Awareness Week and campaigns like Breaking Boundaries are a great opportunity for us to do that.
“No one can predict the fallout the past year will have on people's mental health so it's more important than ever that we are able to continue to deliver our services.
“Every donation will help us raise much needed funds and ultimately increase the work we can do to support the people of Lancashire.”
