The move comes days after the defence contractor announced nearly 1,400 jobs were to be cut in the county.
The Enterprise Zone offers tax breaks and other incentives for firms to develop and create new jobs.
A proposal put forward to government by the Local Enterprise Partnership was rejected in August.
The move has been welcomed by politicians and business leaders.
