Lancashire County Council has announced Angie Ridgwell has formally been appointed as its permanent chief executive and director of resources.

Angie originally took up the role on an interim basis in January, with the compulsory redundancy for previous chief executive Jo Turton and voluntary redundancy for director of governance Ian Young.

A qualified accountant, she has worked in a wide range of public sector bodies and local authorities, most recently as director general for finance and corporate services at the the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy.

Angie said: "I am delighted to have been permanently appointed as chief executive and director of resources. Since coming to Lancashire I have been massively impressed by the passion and commitment of the council's members and employees as well as all the great opportunities the county has to offer.

"Like every other local authority, Lancashire county council faces challenges with growing demand and reducing resources. Together with staff and our partners, we are working hard to ensure the council delivers strong and sustainable services and that Lancashire has a great economic future that everyone can benefit from." Geoff Driver, leader of Lancashire County Council, added: "I welcome Angie's appointment to this very important role. Since her arrival Angie has had a major impact on the council and I now look forward to working with her on a permanent basis in the future."
