East Lancashire businesses came together to raise a staggering £20,000 for Blackburn & Darwen Youth Zone at an annual fundraising quiz organised by the Cummins Mellor family of businesses.
More than 250 people gathered at Accrington Stanley Football Club’s Coley’s Bar to attend the quiz night, which is now in its 9th year.
On the night, Blackburn-based Pierce Business Advisory & Accountancy Group was crowned quiz team of the year, beating off competition from 49 other teams.
There was also a raffle with over 30 prizes up for grabs, including weekend use of a brand new Lexus SUV, £100 Woodland Spa voucher, and a Sonos Roam speaker.
Jack Mellor, managing director of Personnel Checks, said: “As quizmaster on the night, it was fantastic to see so many people come out and support our fundraiser to help Blackburn & Darwen Youth Zone continue to provide the important services they offer to young people in our community. Here’s to next year - our 10th and hopefully biggest fundraiser yet!”
Katie Mellor, Cummins Mellor managing director, said: “The thing I love most about this quiz is that it demonstrates what can be accomplished when everyone plays to their strengths.
“Whether it’s selling tickets, collating amazing raffle prizes, organising scoring for 50 teams, being the ultimate quiz master, hosting tables on the night, running the tech, project managing or coordinating the promotion and marketing - everyone excelled themselves and we did a good thing. I’m so proud!”
Accrington Stanley Football Club kindly donated the use of its 1968 Lounge and Coley’s Bar for the quiz, while teams from the Cummins Mellor family of businesses - which includes Cummins Mellor Recruitment, Chefs Jobs UK, Personnel Checks, and TaxiPlus - all volunteered their time to make sure the event was a success.
The money raised will support the Blackburn and Darwen Youth Zone’s Employability Hub, which helps young people in Blackburn and Darwen overcome barriers to work, education, and training.
